Subject: Science
Class: Basic 7
Component 1
Living Cells
Topic: Describe the structure and function of living cells of an animal
| Strand: Diversity Of Matter | Sub-strand: Living Cells |
| Indicator: B7.1.2.1.1 Describe the structure and function of living cells of an animal | Content Standard: B7.1.2.1 Demonstrate understanding of the structure of organisms and functions of cells in living systems |
| Performance Indicator: Learners can describe the structure and function of living cells | T.L.R.(s): Prepared animal-cell slide, Light microscope, Printed animal-cell diagram |
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Revise the previous lesson with learners through questions and answers. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Under teacher supervision, learners place the Prepared animal-cell slide on the Light microscope and focus first on low power. They compare the observed cells with the Printed animal-cell diagram and identify the cell membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus where visible. Learners draw and label an animal cell and annotate the functions of its main organelles. Groups explain why an animal-cell specimen rather than a plant specimen is appropriate evidence for this indicator. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson. |
