Performance Indicator: Learners can demonstrate ability to generate design ideas and develop, models of simple shapes and forms for appreciation and displayT.L.R.(s): Cardboard, Wooden ruler, Starch paste
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Recap of previous lesson using RCA technique
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Concrete-resource task: Set out these resources for each group: Cardboard; Wooden ruler; Starch paste. Guide learners to identify simple three-dimensional shapes such as cubes, cuboids and pyramids and discuss the flat shapes that make up their faces. Using the Wooden ruler, learners measure and draw suitable nets or templates for selected models on the Cardboard. Demonstrate how to include joining flaps on the net and how to mark the fold lines clearly. Learners carefully cut out the cardboard nets, fold along the marked lines and apply the Starch paste to the joining flaps to assemble the shapes into three-dimensional models. Groups construct at least two different models, such as a cube and a cuboid or pyramid. After construction, learners compare their finished models with the original nets and identify the faces, edges and vertices. They discuss any difficulties they encountered with measurement, folding or joining and make corrections where necessary. Assessment: Learners display their completed models, identify the simple shapes used in constructing them, and explain the steps followed from drawing the net to assembling the final three-dimensional form.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Ask learners to do the following by ways of reflecting on the lesson: 1 Tell the class what you learnt during the lesson. 2
