Week 7: Lesson Plan
Subject: Science
Class: Basic 4
Strand: CyclesSub-strand: Earth Science
Indicator (code): B4.2.1.1.1 Demonstrate understanding of cyclic, movements in the environmentContent Std (code): B4.2.1.1 Recognize that some events in, our environment occur recurrently
Performance Indicator: Learners can demonstrate understanding of cyclic, movements in the environmentCore Competencies: Problem Solving skills; Critical Thinking; Justification of Ideas;
T.L.R.(s): string-and-stone pendulum, analogue clock, printed maize life-cycle cardsKeywords: Earth, Cycles, Movements
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Invite learners to tell stories of their mistakes they have committed in the past. Encourage learners to come up with how best they could do to prevent such mistakes and/ or solve them. Get a viral picture, a trending news on twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media handles. Discuss what is trending and invite learners to share their opinions on them
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Demonstrate a string-and-stone pendulum and let learners observe its repeated forward-and-back movement. Learners then watch the second hand of an analogue clock and identify the movement that repeats at regular intervals. Groups arrange printed maize life-cycle cards from seed through germination, mature plant and seed production. They explain how the sequence begins again when a new seed grows. Learners compare the short repeated motions of the pendulum and clock with the longer biological cycle shown on the maize cards and report one feature common to all cycles.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Ask questions to review learners understanding of the lesson Learners to tell what was interesting about the lesson. Have learners to read and spell the key words written on the board
