Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Have learners to sing songs and recite familiar rhymes relating to the lesson WATER WE DRINK Water we drink and water we use, To wash our vessels, our clothes and shoes. With water we bathe, and wash our hair. But what do we do, when it isn’t there! Shut the tap when you don’t need it, Don’t let water overflow. When you learn to save water, You will have enough and more.
Paste a chart of pictures showing of activities that pollute the land and water Have learners to talk about the picture Have learners to identify and relate to some of the pictures
Display an image on the board (relating to the topic) but cover it up. Every time a student a student answers a question then show a little bit of the image. The first person to guess the correct image wins. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Learners to identify some practices that pollute water - Industrial waste. Industries produce a huge amount of waste which contains toxic chemicals - Sewage and wastewater. The sewage and wastewater that is produced by each household and etc.
Learners to identify some practices that pollute land - Landfills and other sites - Construction activities - Soil erosion due to deforestation - Agricultural activities - One of the largest causes of land pollution is mining activities Have learners to suggest ways in which these practices can be mitigated e.g. - do not cut down trees anyhow, - do not win sand along water bodies, - do not defecate in water bodies
For this activity, learners use broom, waste basket and printed photographs of clean and polluted Ghanaian surroundings to identify local environmental problems and demonstrate a practical clean-up or protection action. | Phase 3plenary / reflections What have we learnt today?
