Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Display three unlabeled containers: one with vinegar, one with baking soda, and one with table salt. Ask students: “Can you guess which one is an acid, which one is a base, and which one is a salt?” Share learning indicators and introduce the lesson. Show students a magnet and some iron filings | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Groups use separate strips of the Red-and-blue litmus paper to test the Lime juice and the teacher-prepared Dilute soapy water and table-salt solution. They record that the lime juice shows acidic behaviour, the dilute soapy water shows basic behaviour and the table-salt solution is neutral under this simple test. Learners place the labelled samples on a printed pH scale supplied as ordinary stationery and describe characteristic reactions and safe handling. No sample is tasted and hands are washed after testing. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson |

Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Share learning indicators and introduce the lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Concrete-resource task: Set out these resources for each group: Coloured bottle tops; Wooden sticks; Printed sodium-chloride lattice diagram. Learners use the coloured bottle tops as atoms and the wooden sticks as bonds, then compare their models with the printed particle-model cards or lattice diagram.
Let students use physical bond models or kits to simulate bond formations, encouraging them to explain their understanding as they do so. Display samples or pictures of various substances. Ask students to identify the type of bonding in each substance based on their learning. Discuss the properties of each substance that make its bonding type evident (e.g., the conductivity of metals due to metallic bonding). Assessment 1.

Why do you think metals are generally good conductors of electricity? 4.
