Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a hands-on activity
Place a few tools and equipment related to measuring and marking out on a table
Ask learners to observe and write down the names of as many tools as they can identify
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners inspect the scale and safe edges of the Tape measure, Steel rule and Combination square. At three stations they measure a longer distance with the tape measure, mark a short straight dimension with the steel rule and check or mark a right angle with the combination square. Groups classify the tools for building, woodwork and metalwork applications and justify their choices by accuracy, range and function.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson
