Week 6: Lesson Plan
Subject: Computing
Class: Basic 7
Topic: Algorithm
Strand: Computational ThinkingSub-strand: Algorithm
Indicator (code): B7.5.2.1.1Content Std (code): B7.5.2.1 Demonstrate understanding of Algorithm
Performance Indicator: Learners can define and describe the properties of an algorithmCore Competencies: CP, DL, Communication and Collaboration (CC)
T.L.R.(s): Charts, Computer
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Recap previous knowledge about the properties of an algorithm. Quick brainstorm: What do you already know about the properties of an algorithm? Introduction to today's objectives regarding the properties of an algorithm. Mental drill or quick quiz related to the properties of an algorithm.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Define and explain algorithms as step-by-step procedures for solving problems or completing tasks. Highlight and discuss key properties of a good algorithm: Finiteness, Definiteness, and Effectiveness. Engage students in creating and sharing 'Natural Language' algorithms for simple tasks to reinforce understanding. Evaluate understanding by having students list and explain the three properties of a good algorithm.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Summarize what we learned today about the properties of an algorithm. Oral assessment: Answer key questions on the properties of an algorithm. Learners share one new thing they found out about the properties of an algorithm. Check for understanding and wrap up the week on the properties of an algorithm.
