Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Learners give more examples of adverbs of manner and use them in context. Engage learners in a conversation. Say: We all like talking to our friends. What do you talk about with your friends? Listen to pupils’ answers. Write some of their ideas on the board. Example answers: home, school, other friends, music
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners study the printed photograph of the school compound and identify familiar landmarks. They arrange the printed direction cards to form a route and trace it while a partner follows the instructions. Learners write the clearest direction words on the chalkboard with chalk, then give and follow a new route using accurate sequence and location language.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson. Take feedback from learners and summarize the lesson.

Adverbs

Topic: Using Adverbs to Modify Verbs

Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Revise with learners to identify adverbs of manner in sentences. Learners give more examples of adverbs of manner and use them in context.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners identify actions in the printed action-picture cards, complete the printed sentence cards with suitable verbs or modifiers, and share correct examples on the chalkboard with chalk. Guide learners to explain each of the phrase. Using word and sentence cards, adverbs and adverb phrases answer the question “how often?” They are called adverbs of frequency. Ask learners questions to illicit responses using adverbs of frequency. Example: Underline the adverbs in the sentences.. katy practices the piano regularly. © Bold print signals important vocabulary and/or a phrase that is integral to understanding the content of a text.

Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Ask, Assuming your friend goes away. How do you keep in contact? Example answers: mobile phone, internet, letters. Tell learners that today they are going to study how to write a letter to a friend. This is called an informal letter.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners identify the parts of the printed sample letter set in Ghana, then plan and draft their own letters in exercise books with pencils. Guide learners to identify features of informal letters I (writer's address, date, salutation, body, subscription, I name). Learners to use the correct features of informal letters appropriately. Example: Engage learners to write informal letters on a range of themes to friends and relatives. help learners to correct errors of informal letters written by others. Engage learners to interact with a variety of texts. Use samples of varied texts such as non-fiction — articles, formal letters, etc. to identify text features I

Learners examine the Ghanaian newspaper and printed local product advertisement for the target text features, then record and compare their findings in exercise books with pencils. Guide learners to identify features of informal letters I (writer's address, date, salutation, body, subscription, I name). Learners to use the correct features of informal letters appropriately. Example: Engage learners to interact with a variety of texts. Use samples of varied texts such as non-fiction — articles, formal letters, etc. to identify text features I Discuss how the text features aid in the comprehension of a text. E.g.
