Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Review learners understanding in the previous lesson using questions and answers
Engage learners to play games and sing songs to begin the lesson.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Discuss with learners some African visual artists living in Africa and examine how the artworks reflect the history and culture of the people in Africa. e.g. Goncalo Mabunda Goncalo Mabunda born in January 1, 1975 in Maputo, Mozambique is an artist and anti-war activist. He welds together menacing instruments of death, bullets, pistols, parts of Kalashnikovs, into disarming objects, deceptively esthetic, fused to suggest a multiplicity of meanings not least to suggest alternate uses and culture. Let learners study the artworks (sculpture works) of Goncalo Mabunda. Learners gather materials and tools available in their community based on artwork of Goncalo Mabunda they wish to create. Demonstrate and guide learners to make a simple sculpture. Allow learners to practice in groups following the steps provided. Learners to discuss and compare their artworks to the artworks studied. For this activity, learners use pencils and crayons, old cartons and manila paper and kente and Adinkra samples to study familiar designs and create visual artworks with locally available materials.
