Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Introduce polite requests through role-playing scenarios where students ask for classroom materials and respond accordingly. Engage students in a quick word recognition game using flashcards with high-frequency words. Show a series of images and ask students to create simple sentences describing each picture, focusing on clarity and detail.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Conduct a listening activity where students identify polite requests from audio clips and practice responding appropriately. Organize pair work where students take turns making and responding to polite requests using classroom or playground scenarios. Reading: Have students participate in a reading race where they compete to recognize and read high-frequency words from a word wall. Use a shared reading strategy with a text containing numerous high-frequency words, stopping to highlight and read them aloud together. Writing: Guide students in creating a picture diary where they write simple sentences describing daily events, using clear sequential order. Host a writing workshop focused on constructing short narratives from a series of pictures, ensuring the use of simple sentences. Using Writing Conventions: Introduce coordinating conjunctions through sentence construction games, where students join ideas using provided conjunctions. Conduct a mini-lesson on combining sentences using coordinating conjunctions, followed by practice exercises. Extensive Reading: Assign age-appropriate books for silent reading followed by group discussions to share summaries and personal reflections. Organize a reading circle where students read a short story together and collaboratively create a summary poster.
