Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin the lesson with a short conversation circle where students share their weekend experiences using a new vocabulary word they learned last week. Introduce a set of new vocabulary words and have students work in pairs to guess their meanings before checking with a dictionary. Discuss the importance of punctuation in writing by showing examples of sentences with and without punctuation. Read a short story aloud and have students predict the ending, focusing on comprehension and vocabulary use.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Conduct a role-play activity where students engage in a dialogue using newly introduced vocabulary, focusing on clear pronunciation and context. Organize a group discussion on a familiar topic where each student must use at least one new vocabulary word accurately. Reading: Assign students a short passage to read silently, then use dictionaries to clarify any unfamiliar words, enhancing comprehension. Organize a small group activity where students summarize a text after reading, focusing on main ideas and supporting details. Writing: Guide students through writing a short story draft, focusing on clear expression and incorporating new vocabulary. Facilitate a peer review session where students exchange drafts and provide feedback, emphasizing language use and clarity. Using Writing Conventions: Conduct an exercise where students identify and correct punctuation errors in sample sentences, focusing on apostrophes and commas. Provide sentences without punctuation and have students rewrite them correctly, emphasizing possession and clarity.
