Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a storytelling session where the teacher narrates a short cultural tale and asks students to predict the ending. Engage students in a phonics warm-up by identifying sounds in simple words using flashcards. Practice writing letters by having students trace both small and capital letters in the air. Introduce simple prepositions with a short interactive game using classroom objects to show position.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Students retell the cultural story they heard using their own words, focusing on key elements. Pair students to create and share their own short stories based on a cultural theme. Reading: Guide students through a structured analysis of a simple text, emphasizing decoding unknown words using phonics. Conduct a shared reading session where students identify and highlight unfamiliar words and decode them as a class. Writing: Have students write a short paragraph spacing words appropriately, based on a prompt related to their cultural story. Provide a fill-in-the-blank activity where students complete sentences, ensuring proper spacing and alignment. Using Writing Conventions: Students practice using prepositions by completing sentences with the correct prepositions indicating position and time. Create a classroom map and ask students to describe locations using prepositions. Extensive Reading: Organize a reading circle where students pick age-appropriate books and discuss their favorite parts. Guide students to read a digital story and share summaries with the class.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Reflect on the storytelling exercise by asking students to share what they learned about cultural values. Reading: Assess students' ability to decode words by having them list new words they learned and explain their meanings. Writing: Review students' written paragraphs to ensure proper spacing and provide feedback on improvements. Using Writing Conventions: Check students' use of prepositions in sentences by reviewing their completed exercises for accuracy. Extensive Reading: Ask students to reflect on their reading experience and share how it influenced their understanding of the story.
