Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Introduce a storybook with colorful illustrations and ask students to predict the story based on the cover. Play a phonics game where students match beginning sounds with corresponding pictures. Have students share a sentence using a preposition of time or place and discuss its meaning.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Reading: Conduct a guided reading session, focusing on structural analysis by identifying prefixes, suffixes, and root words in a text. Engage students in a word hunt activity where they locate and decode unknown words using context clues from age-appropriate books. Writing: Guide students to practice spacing between words by writing sentences on lined paper, emphasizing even spacing. Facilitate a letter formation activity where students write both small and capital letters in a series of short sentences. Using Writing Conventions: Introduce a preposition chart and have students create sentences using each preposition to describe positions and times. Conduct a sentence construction game where students build sentences using preselected prepositions. Extensive Reading: Encourage students to select a book from the class library and read independently for a set period. Organize a book-sharing circle where students recommend books and share their favorite parts.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Reading: Reflect on the strategies used for decoding words and ask students to share which methods helped them the most. Writing: Have students self-assess their written work for correct spacing and letter formation, sharing areas they found challenging. Using Writing Conventions: Invite students to create a short skit using prepositions to describe positions and times and discuss their usage in context. Extensive Reading: Ask students to reflect on their reading experience and share what they enjoyed or learned from their chosen book.
