Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Revise with learners on the previous lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Concrete-resource task: Set out these resources for each group: Dry-cell battery; Torch bulb; Connecting wires. Learners observe and safely handle the specimens or apparatus, using them in the investigation or model below.
Have learners to understand that energy is needed to be able to do all the various kinds of work Every type of energy has a particular form of work that it can be used to do. There is the need to sometimes change one form of energy into another form that can be used to perform particular work.
Brainstorm learners for the meaning of energy conversion. The process during which one form of energy changes into another form of energy is known as energy conversion.
Revise with learners on the law of conservation of energy. The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only be changed.
Have learners discuss the importance of energy conversion. It enables a more available but a less useful energy form to be changed into a less available but a more useful energy form.
Guide learners to describe how energy is converted from one form to another. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson. |

Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Share learning indicators and introduce the lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Under teacher guidance, groups use the Connecting wires to join the Dry-cell battery to the Torch bulb in a simple low-voltage circuit. They observe the bulb and trace chemical energy in the battery changing to electrical energy in the circuit and then light and heat energy in the bulb. Learners disconnect the circuit promptly to avoid heating or draining the cell. They draw the conversion chain and give two other everyday Ghanaian examples of energy conversion. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Take feedback from learners and summarize the lesson. |

Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Revise with learners on the previous lesson.
Share learning indicators and introduce the lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Groups place the Small solar panel in safe sunlight and connect it to the Torch bulb with teacher-prepared leads to observe solar energy changing to electrical and light energy. They then trace stored water, moving turbines and generated electricity on the Printed Akosombo energy-conversion diagram. Learners compare the two conversion chains and explain why energy conversion makes natural energy sources useful for lighting, homes and industry. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson.
