Revise with learners to review their understanding in the previous lesson.

Groups examine the Wedding ring, Kente cloth sample and Printed photographs of Ghanaian marriage rites as evidence of Christian, Islamic and traditional marriage practices in Ghana. They sequence proposal, family consent, customary or religious requirements, witnesses and public recognition for each tradition. Groups role-play a short respectful scene and explain the importance of legitimacy, family support and responsibility in marriage. This component ends with marriage rites; death rites are taught in the next component.

Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson.

Concrete-resource task: Set out these resources for each group: Black funeral cloth; Bible; Printed photographs of Ghanaian funeral rites. Learners respectfully examine and compare the objects and printed examples, and refer to them as evidence during the discussion below. In three groups, learner’s role play how death rites are performed in the three religions. Let learners dentify and explain the importance of death rites. Importance of death rites • They psychologically prepare and support the bereaved family. • They enable the dead to have a smooth entrance to the land of the dead. • They remind the living of judgement after death and the need to prepare for it. • They celebrate the life of the deceased and offer the living counsel to learn from the moral qualities of the dead, etc. Guide learners to discuss the moral lessons in the rites of passage.
