Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Create a friendly classroom environment by greeting students and asking them to greet each other using 'Please'. Introduce the lesson's objectives and explain the importance of polite requests. Play a short audio clip of a story and ask students to identify 'Please' requests they hear.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Conduct a role-play where students practice making polite requests using 'Please' in different scenarios. Engage students in a listening activity where they respond to audio prompts containing polite requests. Reading: Read aloud a simple story and pause to identify the beginning, middle, and end parts with the class. Provide students with short story strips and have them arrange the strips in the correct order. Writing: Give students sentence fragments and guide them to match parts to form complete sentences. Encourage students to write a short story, focusing on creating a beginning, middle, and end. Using Writing Conventions: Provide a fill-in-the-blank worksheet to complete simple words using prepositions. Conduct an activity where students correct preposition errors in a given text. Extensive Reading: Set up a classroom reading corner with a variety of age-appropriate books and encourage individual reading. Organize a group reading session where students take turns reading aloud from selected texts.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Have students reflect on their comfort and challenges in making polite requests using 'Please'. Reading: Ask students to summarize the structure of the story they read, highlighting the beginning, middle, and end. Writing: Review students' sentence matches and discuss strategies for creating meaningful texts. Using Writing Conventions: Assess students' ability to correctly fill in blanks and use prepositions in sentences. Extensive Reading: Encourage students to share their favorite book from the day and explain why they enjoyed it.
