Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Engage learners to sing songs and recite familiar rhymes STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT. Star light, star bright. The first star I see tonight I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight.
Engage learners to play the “Odd One Out” game. The student will look at; for example four pictures (sources of light). Three of which have something in common and one is the odd one. The learner is to pick the odd one out. This game could be done in groups to bring competition.
Group learners into three (3), appoint a leader from each group to act as the teacher. Ask them to summarize what was covered in the previous lesson. The class is allowed to pose questions to the leaders. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Display a battery torch and solar lantern. Learners observe each safe device while it is switched on by the teacher and explain how its light helps people see at home or in the community.
Groups sort printed cards of local natural and artificial light sources into two sets. They identify the Sun as the main natural source of daylight and distinguish it from the battery torch and solar lantern.
Learners present their sorting decisions and draw one safe natural source and one safe artificial source.
