Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Flash letter cards to learners for them to make its sounds. Ask pupils to write some letters in the air as you mention them | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Learners study the printed photographs of familiar Ghanaian settings, select suitable expressions from the printed dialogue cards, and use the locally made role-play props to practise the conversation.
Give commands and instructions to learners. e.g. Command: Keep quiet, Hands up, Sit down, Bring your books, Start work, etc. Pair learners to give/obey commands. Have learners listen to simple instructions and act in response. let learners practice by giving commands in pairs. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Give learners task to complete while you go round the class to support those who might need extra help. Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Engage learners in the “Change your style” game Teacher calls out different actions for learners to act. Student have to mimic the action continuously without breaking. After a while teacher speeds up the tempo. For example: jumping, jumping, crazy dance, heading a ball etc. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Learners read the Ghanaian storybook and the printed passage about a Ghanaian community, then record the target ideas or reading responses in exercise books with pencils.
Gather learners in the community time circle. Using pictures, tell learners an interesting story. Example: Emma has a new dress. It is red in color. It was a gift from her uncle. He hid it behind one of the sofa to surprise her. Use the Simple Herring Bone strategy to guide learners to retell the story in their own words. i. who was the gift from? ii. what color is the dress? iii. Where was it hidden? | Phase 3plenary / reflections Ask learners to tell you what they have learnt and what they will like to learn in the next lesson.
