Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Engage students with a brief discussion on the importance of effective communication and listening skills. Introduce the concept of plosive sounds by demonstrating with words like 'pat', 'bat', and 'cat'. Share a short audio clip featuring a conversation with clear examples of plosive sounds and ask students to identify them. Begin with reading a short paragraph from 'The Cockcrow' to set the context for the lesson.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Listen to a recorded group discussion and jot down the key points identified by each speaker. Participate in a role-play activity where students must use plosive sounds effectively in dialogue. Reading: Read a comprehension passage and answer questions that explore different viewpoints expressed in the text. Compare and contrast the viewpoints in the passage with those in 'The Cockcrow'. Grammar: Identify sentences in a passage that require a colon and rewrite them correctly. Create sentences that use colons to introduce lists or explanations. Writing & Literature: Write an article discussing a current issue, ensuring the use of colons where appropriate. Analyze the sequence of events in a narrative and create a timeline.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Reflect on the role-play activity and discuss how effectively plosive sounds were used to convey meaning. Reading: Share insights on how understanding different points of view enhanced the comprehension of the text. Grammar: Review a peer's rewritten sentences and discuss the correct use of colons. Writing & Literature: Present the timeline of events created for the narrative and discuss its accuracy and clarity.
